Ground News vs AllSides: how they compare
Both sites start from the same worry: one outlet's version of a story is not the whole story. AllSides answers it with a short roundup of three outlets, one from the left, one from the center and one from the right. Ground News answers it with every outlet it can find, broken down by political lean, and sells its fuller tools as a subscription. Here is how they differ, and where a third, free option fits.

How each one rates bias
AllSides rates outlets itself. It runs blind surveys, where people of different political leanings rate an outlet's writing with the branding removed, and editorial reviews by a panel from across the spectrum, and then combines the two. The result is one of five labels: left, lean left, center, lean right or right.
Ground News does not rate outlets itself. It averages the ratings of AllSides, Ad Fontes Media and Media Bias Fact Check onto a seven-step scale, and adds a factuality score from the last two. Both sites rate whole publications against US politics, not the article in front of you.
Which one to pick
Pick AllSides if you want a quick, human-written roundup of a few big stories and a clear left, center and right label on each outlet, for free. Pick Ground News if you want to see the full spread of outlets on a story, which side covers it more, and a Blindspot feed, and you are happy to pay for the complete version.
A free third option
grouped.news shows every outlet it follows on a story, like Ground News, for free and with no account. It does not label outlets left or right. Instead, on US stories it reads how each outlet framed that particular story, how sensational and loaded its wording was and how one-sided it read. Those readings are machine estimates, shown next to each outlet's real headline. It also has editions for 16 other countries and regions in their own languages. Questions
Which is better, Ground News or AllSides?
It depends on what you want. AllSides gives you short, human-written roundups with one outlet each from the left, center and right. Ground News shows many more outlets per story with a bias and factuality breakdown, but its full tools are a paid plan.
Does Ground News use AllSides ratings?
Yes, in part. Ground News says its bias rating for each outlet averages the ratings from AllSides, Ad Fontes Media and Media Bias Fact Check.
Is there a free option that shows every outlet?
grouped.news is free and needs no account. It groups every report it finds on the same event into one story and links to each original article. It shows ads, and it does not give outlets a left or right label.
